As a student coming from a country that has been in the process of democratic backsliding for a long time, I highly value democratic decision making and freedom of expression. Our campus should be full of posters, flyers, stickers and art that represent what students think and feel. Our university should be a free and safe space to have academic and political discourse. As a representative of PSA, I aim to keep the Executive Board in check at the University Council and push for our current objectives, including an academic boycott of Israeli universities.”

My focus is: Freedom of expression on campus

Why this is important to me: It is currently not possible to sticker and flyer around our campus, but we at PSA believe that students should be able to express themselves freely and artistically. Due to the current regulations we are not able to reach each other as students. We believe that our campus should be a brighter and more vibrant space full of stickers, posters and flyers!

Secondly, the restriction of flyering and postering is a clear restriction of our right to Freedom of Expression! Our university should be an open and free space to have political discourse about issues that actually matter. Our campus should be a space to exchange ideas and spark conversations about issues that actually matter!

How we want to achieve this:

Stickering, postering, and flyering are all banned by the House Rules of Tilburg University. These House Rules are written by Facility Services and approved by the Executive Board, with no input from students and staff that are affected by these overbearing and undemocratic rules. I will work to change these house rules, by challenging the Executive Board and Facility Services’ curtailment of freedom of expression through the University Council.

We believe that our campus should be a brighter and more vibrant space full of stickers, posters and flyers!
